The focus of medicine is shifting from treatment to preventive care. White matter lesions (WML), linked to cerebral small vessel disease, are prevalent in Asia and increase dementia risk. A study of 5701 subjects from 9 Asian cities found WML prevalence highest in stroke/TIA cases (43.3%). Hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and age were key risk factors, affecting cognitive performance.

Mild behavioral impairment (MBI) is one of the earliest observable changes when a person experiences cognitive decline and could be an early manifestation of underlying Alzheimer's disease neuropathology. Limited attention has been given to investigating the clinical applicability of behavioral biomarkers for detection of prodromal dementia.
